“Almost Home walked their way into another successful event!”

The Back to School BBQ/Walk proved to be a great success. The sun rested so that we could enjoy all of the outdoor activities that Nestle Purina’s Women in Business provided for us. The Members and their children indulged in the great tastes of snow cones, popcorn, Edy’s Ice Cream, BBQ and more… but that was after they enjoyed an invigorating two mile walk. The walk was themed “Walk into the Future”, which is exactly what the program portion of the day allowed the young mothers to do. After enjoying tons of games and activities, including a scavenger hunt, dogs from the Delta Society, Fire Safety information, photos, drawings and more, the past and current Members of Almost Home were presented with certificates of achievement. Each mother received a certificate and walked away from the event feeling accomplished and ready to move forward in her journey, which could be high school, college, employment or transitioning to the apartments.

To top the event off, Senator Robin Wright-Jones presented the Board President, Carla Baum, with a Resolution for Almost Home and Alderwoman Marlene Davis spoke to the young mothers about the power of self-belief and endurance.
